Maurizio Margaglio is one of the most influential figures in the history of Italian ice dance, known for combining exceptional technical precision with powerful artistry on the ice.
During his competitive career, Margaglio reached the very highest level of international skating. Together with his long-time partner Barbara Fusar-Poli, he made history for Italy by becoming World Champions in 2001, a landmark achievement that established them among the elite of world ice dance. The couple also delivered a memorable performance at the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, where they earned the Olympic bronze medal after a career-defining free dance that remains iconic in the sport. Multiple European Championship medals further confirmed their consistency and status among the strongest couples of their generation.
Following his competitive career, Maurizio transitioned into coaching and choreography, sharing his deep understanding of performance quality, skating skills, and competitive strategy with the next generation of skaters. His approach as a coach is strongly shaped by his experience at the very top of the sport, with a focus on precision, musical interpretation, and building strong competitive programs capable of performing under pressure.
At the IcePlanet stage, Maurizio Margaglio brings not only his technical expertise but also a unique perspective from decades spent at the highest international level. His sessions offer skaters the opportunity to learn from a World and Olympic medalist who understands what it truly takes to reach excellence in ice dance—both technically and artistically.
